A Little Help Please? (UPDATED)

I need your help finding a mystery song from my childhood! When I was a child we had a tape of Christmas songs and I sang this one for a Christmas program:

"How I wish that I could have been there when,
The shepherds and the angels came to worship Him,
What a joyful night it was in Bethlehem,
How I wish that I could have been there then.

How I wish that I could have heard His cry,
And listen to His mother sing a lullaby,
As He lay there sleeping 'neath the starry sky,
How I wish that I could have heard His cry!

I would give anything
to have heard the angels sing
'Glory in the Highest!' to the newborn King...

How I wish that I could have been there when,
The shepherds and the angels came to worship Him,
What a joyful night it was in Bethlehem,
How I wish that I could have been there then...

...and yet...
In my heart I've been
Time and time again! "

Can anyone help me? I would like to know the name of the tape it was on so I can try to find it for my own kids.

***ADDED:
It was little kids singing it. I think I might remember a couple other songs on it too...

There was one about the Cristmas tree. I only remember part of it;
"Green is a sign that
will always remind us
The Father has an everlasting love
A color so gay that
no matter how gray that
the world may seem we still have plenty of
GREEEEEEENNNNN..."

It might have had Away In A Manger on it too. There are more that are just stuck in the deep dark recesses of my memory and I can't find them at the moment. This tape would have been pretty old - I think I was 11 the year I sang the one song (that would have been 1994) and we'd had the tape for years already. If I think of any other songs that were on the tape I'll add them...

UPDATE: It was called 20 Christmas Songs for Kids. It was copyrighted 1988 THE BENSON COMPANY (Benson Music/ Brentwood-Benson) and contained the songs "Little Packages," "We've Got News For You!" "How I Wish," "Snowflake," "Evergreen," "Away In a Manger," "Go Tell It On The Mountain," "Christmas Bell," "Happy Birthday To You," "The Greatest Gift Of All" and 10 more. I wish I had better news: It was a really sweet album. I wonder if we all who are looking for it were to contact the company and for a re-release if they would do it? http://www.brentwoodbenson.com/contactUs.action Click on the name to email or use the phone number and phone them. Perhaps the squeaky wheels will get the grease, as my mom used to say. :)
**UPDATE AGAIN: I got a response back from someone at Benson who told me to buy the tape on Amazon and have someone convert it to CD.

  3. Thank you Monica!
Thank you Kelly! I am pretty sure the tape was from 1990-ish and it was kids singing it. I don't think that one was it. I added some more info above.

  5. Or what you might be looking for is called: Precious Moments Brightest Star.

The tape contained songs sung mostly by children including Christmas Cookies made by mom, Good things come in little packages, How I wish, and Bring a Torch Jeanette Isabella...

I don't remember the Christmas tree song though...

  6. Did you ever find a download of this song anywhere? I know this is Random, but I used to sing this song as well, and I'd like to sing it again, but for the live of me I can't find the track anywhere online.

If you can help, please drop me an email @ jasonbunger@yahoo.com

  8. You can download it here:

It's not the exact recording, but it is the same song and it is sung by a child here.

  9. I'm not sure if this will help you. I hope so. I believe I've been searching for the same recording for many years. My kids grew up listening to it but one year it was lost. I believe it was a compilation of at least two different artists/children's choirs.

I finally found most of the songs on "The One and Only Original Christmas Factory" Written by Kathie Hill and I was able to purchase a vinyl copy from Ebay. However the "Good things come in little packages", and one other song that I barely remember (it went something like: "Extra, Extra, hear all about it...."), are not on it. I assume this is a different artist/choir but I really don't know. I won't give up until I find ALL of the songs that were on that tape. I want my grandkids to listen to it :(.

Good luck to you and if you find anything out, PLEASE post an update for me? Thank you. Sondra

  10. Dear Sondra, I'm sorry to say it's a retired album and we'd be lucky to find an old cassette of it someplace. Stan above in the comments was correct: it was called 20 Christmas Songs for Kids. It was copyrighted 1988 THE BENSON COMPANY (Benson Music/ Brentwood-Benson) and contained the songs you mentioned, "Little Packages," and "We've Got News For You!" as well as "How I Wish," "Snowflake," "Evergreen," "Away In a Manger," "Go Tell It On The Mountain," "Christmas Bell," "Happy Birthday To You," "The Greatest Gift Of All" and 10 more. I have located a scan of the paper that was in the cassette tape we owned and will see if I can upload it to the original post as an update. I wish I had better news, for both of us! It was a really sweet album. ~Jessica
