7/13 An American Girl catalog came in the mail. Bug is napping so I let Chicklet peruse the catalog to keep her quiet. She's been "reading" it for ... an hour and 10 minutes so far.
7/14 Bug (23 months) had a little piece of chocolate covered grahm... I went to wash him after and wondered why his fingers were distinctly less messy than his face and what he'd used to wipe it on. It was then that Chicklet (3 3/4 years) informed me that she had licked his fingers clean for him.
7/15 So I warmed a bowl of soup for lunch after feeding my tots some finger food, and guess how much I got to eat? 3 bites. Yes 3 bites. The other 37 bites are now in two little toddler bellies running around my living room, while the finger food is untouched on the table. I'm sure you other mommies know exactly how this goes. ;)
Weekend of 7/17 Buggie peed in his little potty! I think this is the second ever time and the first time in a long time. It was when he first woke up and I put him on the potty before he had a chance to go in his diap. He looked down and said, "Oooh no! Uh-oh..." but I told him it was a good thing, not an uh-oh! He was excited that he got an m&m for it. :D
7/25 Chicklet comes up to my husband and I with a toy Nemo figurine on a toy plate, telling us she cooked supper! We're havin' fish tonight!
7/30 Chicklet is hugging Bug on the couch. Bug giggles, "Mama! See (she) squishing me!" Hehe...
8/1 I think I'm gonna miss my free daily belly massage. :D My two little helpers love rubbing lotion on the preggo belly. Bug comes running up to me, pointing up at the Earth Mama Body Butter lotion on the top of the computer desk with one hand, making rubbing motions with the other hand, and saying, "'otion" over and over again. As in lotion minus the L. I love toddler-speak! :) Baby gsister loves getting the massages too. And the tots love it when baby sister pushes her feet against their hands as they are rubbing in the lotion. Such a sweet bonding time! :)
8/3 My little man pooed in the potty a little bit! For the first time ever! He's almost as proud of himself as I am of him. :) He was also quite excited about getting 2 more m&m's. Then again who wouldn't be excited about m&m's right? I sure would be! ;)
8/4 Chicklet says to me, "Mama we can go down slides just not on our bellies when we are pregnant... right?" The things she comes up with! Like I'd be going down a slide on my belly at my age, preggo or not! Hahaha...
8/9: Chicklet-ism: "Mama I was walkin' and I stepped on a-sumpthin' ouchie and I fell down and now I don't wanna walk on two feet!"

Cherry Picking - Toddler Tales Tuesday
6/29 We went Cherry Picking!!! It was extra exciting because it was Buggie's first time. We took Chicklet when she was Buggie's age for the first time and I remember that we were trying to teach her how to pick one and then put it in the bucket. She reached up and grabbed one and started to reach to put it in the bucket... slowly... then suddenly she slammed that cherry into her mouth and took off RUNNING away like she was a cherry snitching outlaw on the run from Sherriff Dada and Officer Mama. She would have been about 21 months old at this time and it's a fond funny memory. So we were quite excited to take Buggie for his first time and see what he would do. :)
Buggie (22 months) ate his first one, but thereafter he was just sooooo excited to be helpful that he kept picking them and putting them in the bucket. He got quite a few in there actually!
He was saying, "Catch 'em! Catch 'em!" at first. I told him, "Pick them! Pick them!" so then he started saying, "Pickit! Pickit! WEEEEECH!!!!" (as in reach) as he was picking delightedly.
He would occasionally snitch a little bite and then put the bitten cherry in the bucket with the others. ;) Just taste testing to make sure it's worth saving! LOL! At one point he dropped one in the grass and almost started crying! He kept saying, "Oh no! Oh no! Uh-oh! C'you weech? Ooooh nooooo! C'you weech?" Until I reached into the grass and fished it out for him. He was getting quite upset at the loss of a delicious cherry until I retreived it.
Meanwhile Chicklet couldn't seem to get the cherries to survive from the tree to the bucket. They kept finding their way to her mouth somehow. ;)
Sometimes temptation is just too much for Chicklet. Despite warnings and consequences there are some things in life she can't seem to resist. Juicy fruit fresh off the tree is apparently one of them. I wonder if that's how Eve felt in the Garden of Eden...
So despite her having nearly 2 years on him, Buggie outpicked his sister! He probably picked a cup or two of cherries himself!
We were there all of 15 minutes because it was SOOO hot out and we didn't want to get too many cherries and have them go bad, but we came away with some juicy sweet memories and a purple-lipped daughter. ;)
Excuse my lack of a smile- I didn't know hubby was snapping a pic and the sun was blinding me so I was squinting to see where I was going!

No Tacos! - Toddler Tales Tuesday
6/18 Friday evening we walked to a children's parade, pulling the tots in the wagon, and then afterward wandered up the street to the carnival to scope out the fair food for the following day's outing. We had had taco pizza for supper on Monday, and Tacos on Wednesday, and leftover Taco meat for lunch on Thursday. Hubby's reading off the signs on the roach-coaches and when he gets to "...tacos..." Chicklet pipes up from the wagon, nearly flying out of her seat in distress, "NO Tacos!!!!!!!"
6/19 We had a nice walk to the carnival, where we ate (not tacos, hehe) some yummy fair food. Every time someone walked past with ice cream (which was every other minute literally) Chicklet would turn to me and ask to please have some ice cream. Oh how vulnerable kids are to the power of suggestion! We told her we would have ice cream another time and went instead to the petting zoo. Now last year Bug was too little to go in the petting zoo. I think I took him in for a minute but Chicklet was afraid of the animals and needed my full attention so I handed baby Bug back over the fence to Dada. Well this year I took them both in while hubby guarded the stroller. And to my delight, neither of my kids was afraid of the animals this year. Both walked right up to the goats with their cups of grain and giggled and petted and talked to the animals. Chicklet wasn't even scared of the calves until one moo-ed. The sound startled her and she jumped and screamed. Then she turned around and I pointed to the calf and told her it was just the baby cow moo-ing and then she was okay. Bug was so not afraid he kept trying to escape me and follow the ever moving herd of goats around, giggling and petting them while mumbling to himself, "Pet pet pet!" At one point, he bolted and ran straight at the rear end of one of the newborn calves with his arms outstretched, saying, "Huuuuuugs!" I snatched him in time, thankfully, and tried to explain to him that we don't hug butts- especially livestock butts. :-/
6/21 Buggie climbs onto the roof of sister's plastic dollhouse to reach the TV buttons. Me, "Hey, don't stand on that, OK Bug-Bug? I don't want you fall of and hurt yourself; it's dangerous!" Bug squats down and asks, "Ouchie-bonk?" Me, "Yes, exactly. Ouchie-bonk." Bug climbs off the dollhouse and goes off to find something else to play with.

Talk to me while you sleep - Toddler Tales Tuesday
6/9 As I've mentioned before, Chicklet colors in a chair by my bed while I try to take a little nap in the afternoons. I get so tired when pregnant that some days I can't function without a nap, especially in the first and last trimester. It's hard to get a nap in when you have 2 toddlers, one of whom who doesn't nap anymore but is still too young to be left unsupervised. My solution has been to let her color beside my bed because I'm a light enough sleeper to hear if she leaves the room or asks me something. On this particular day she had finished coloring and climbed into bed with me. She asked me, poking at my hair, "Mama, what color is your hair?" I was trying to stay asleep so I mumbled, "Sweetie no talking when Mama's sleeping okay?" I could feel her nod. But then she leaned over my ear and whispered, "Mama, what color's your hair?" I reminded her that she's not supposed to talk because Mommy's trying to sleep. She replied, confused, "But Mama, we can talk quietly while you sleep!"
6/11 Hubby was changing Bug's diaper, Chicklet was picking out a book to look at, and I was in the bathroom washing the walls (nesting: don't ask... LOL!). My hubby hollered out, "Marco!" and I yelled back, "Polo!" because we're the weird kind of people who play Marco Polo while wiping poo and washing bathroom walls. The kids of course thought it was funny. The next morning, instead of yelling from his crib for me with his traditional sing-song "Maaaaama!", I hear "Maaaarco!", to which I of course replied, "Pooooolo!" as I made my way to the bedroom to get him instead of my traditional, "Buuuuugie!" This resulted in fits of giggles from both tots.
6/14 Apparently the Marco Polo game brought out an ornery sense of humor in my little man! This morning instead of being alerted to the fact that Bug was awake by a call of, "Maaaama!" or even, "Maaaarco!", I was greeted by "Daaaaaddy!" :-S I responded in the same sing-song holler, "Iiiii'm noooot Daaaaddy!" This was met with giggles. And more calls for "Daaaaddy!" And it did not stop there. Every time he addressed me today he called me "Daddy" and then flashed me his stinker grin while waiting for me to make an insulted face or sound.

Toddler Tales Tuesday!
This week I was bad about writing down the cute things the kids said and did as they happened, and you know how Mommy's memory goes when preggo? Lol! What memory? ;) So the pickings are slim this week unfortunately. Pretty much limited to this morning's happenings. So, without further ado, may I present this morning's happenings:
6/8 They are the best of friends, they are the worst of contenders! Ahhh siblings! ;) This morning Buggie (almost 22 months) was following Chicklet (3 yrs. 8.5 mnths.) around adoringly, copying everything she did. Chicklet was feeding him her goldfish and bringing him his sippy cup, doting on him. This afternoon they lay on the couch hugging and kissing each other and giggling for almost 1/4 of an hour. This evening Buggie got out the Bumbo seat and placed it carefully on the floor before standing up and turning around, backing his diapered tush up to sit in it... meanwhile, about 6 feet away, Chicklet saw this and FLUNG herself bottom-first across the space of twice her height, landing in the Bumbo before baby brother could get his tush lined up properly to plop into the seat. Realizing he'd been out-maneuvered, Buggie set up a screeching wail that would have put an alley cat to shame. Time for Mama to step in! *sigh* Too bad it can't be sunshine and roses... or hugs and kisses all day, eh? ;)

"I Licked It!" - Toddler Tales Tuesday
5/19 Bug (1 yr. 9 mnths.) was napping in the kids' room, and Chicklet (3 yrs. 8 mnths.) was in time out in my bed. She was cranky and tired so I decided she would nap with me and was refilling my water bottle while she waited in bed. When I got to bed and lay down, that mean old heartburn set in and I started feeling around on the windowsill above my head. I always keep 1 or 2 Tums up there for when I am awake due to heartburn. I found the purple berry flavored one that was left by it's lonesome from the night before and popped it into my mouth, snuggling down into my pillow. Chicklet snuggled up to my back and giggled. Then she giggled again. I said, "What's funny? You're supposed to be sleeping." She giggled again, very quietly, and then said in a quiet, mischeivous voice, "I licked it."
I stopped sucking my antacid, and began to get an uneasy feeling that I knew precisely where this was going.
"What did you lick?"
Chicklet, giggling again, whispered, "I licked it!"
Me, "WHAT did you lick?"
Chicklet, in that low mischeivous, secret-voice, "Mommy's purple on the window."
Me, "You licked Mommy's purple Tums?!"
Chicklet giggled again and I felt her nod against my back as she whispered again, "I licked it!"
Ewwww.....
5/20 I was trying to take a nap. Bug was napping in the kids' room. Chicklet was coloring in the corner of my bedroom as is our usual arrangement. She colors until she gets bored and then climbs into bed with me. She winds up either squirming/talking too much until I give up and we go start dinner, or falling asleep if she's actually tired. I vaguely remember her climbing into bed with me after a while, taking one of the pillows to the foot of the bed, and telling me she was sleeping "upside down." Shortly, I awoke again to a very tickley sensation on my foot, when I curled it up in protest, I heard a little giggle, followed by the tickley sensation on my other foot. After I was awake enough to be coherent, I realized the tickling was Chicklet's breath as she was sniffing my feet like a dog.
5/31 Daddy took Miss Chicklet fishing for the first time and I was home with my little Bug-man. I was checking my facebook. I should know better by now than to try to do anything on the computer when either of the tots are awake. They always need something when I'm right in the middle of typing out a train of thought. So Bug went in the kitchen and came back promptly with a can of ravioli from the pantry cabinet. Whoops! Guess I forgot to put the lock back on that door. He was SO proud of himself though that I praised him for being helpful and was rewarded by one of his showstopping grins. I turn into a puddle of mush when he flashes me that grin. He's such a sweet boy with so much joy in his sparkling eyes! Well I tried to finish the sentence I was typing in response to a friend's status so I could get up and figure out dinner, and I hadn't even gotten 5 more words down when here comes Bug, proudly carrying 2 bags of lentils. He handed me one, and tried to bite into the other. I thanked him for the lentils and told him they need opened and cooked before we bite them. Lol! He smiled and raced back to the kitchen again. I started pecking out the rest of my sentence with the hand that wasn't now holding ravioli and lentils as fast as I could but not fast enough! Here comes my little helper with 3 cans of tuna! Each time he would bring me something with a proud smile, the sparkle in his eye in anticipation of my praise, I would thank him and he would give me his amazing smile and then race off to the pantry again as I tried to peck out the rest of my ill-fated comment! I wound up with 2 bags of lentils, 3 cans of tuna, a jug of olive oil, a can of ravioli, a "family sized" can of chicken noodle soup, a can of sardines, and a can of vienna sausages. And each time I thanked my tiny man for his helpfulness and was rewarded with his amazing smile! I love this age! Both of my kids have been such amazing little rays of sunshine at this age! Not that Chicklet still isn't a ray of sunshine, she is amazing as she comes out of the trying toddler age and becomes a sweet and helpful little girl!
Later that night Chicklet made us Mac & Cheese for dinner. I put some water on to boil and when it was bubbling, Chicklet poured in the noodles. After they were done I drained it for her and then put her up on a stool to stir while I dropped in the remaining ingredients. She did very good at mixing the meal together and it was so cute how proud of herself she was for cooking us all dinner. ;) She didn't spill noodles out of the pot but she got it all mixed together nicely. I was proud of her! She even wanted to help me unload the dishwasher while we waited for the noodles to cook! She was so excited to tell her Daddy who made dinner tonight. :) Meanwhile the Bugster knelt on the couch with his head on the back of it, watching us work, looking like he might drop off to sleep at any second. Poor sleepy baby! Bringing me half the contents of the pantry must have been exhausting! ;)

Bringing me half the contents of the pantry must have been exhausting! ;)

"I yie you, Mama!" - Toddler Tales Tuesday
5/9 - 5/12 we were out of town visiting family. That is why no Toddler Tales Tuesday got posted last week - sorry about that! I didn't feel comfortable announcing that we'd be out of town before it happened. Our neighbor spotted a prowler in the yard between our houses the previous week so we've been a bit more cautious than usual lately. ;)
5/13 Put Buggie (1 yr, 9 mnths) to bed and Chicklet (3 yrs, 8 mnths) asked out of the blue if she could go play in the basement. Now, the basement is fully finished and the main room down there is full of the kids' larger toys. I haven't taken the kids down there to play in months because they have toys upstairs too and I just rotate with the ones in the basement when things get boring. So I was kind of caught off guard when she asked to play in the basement, but didn't have a problem with it. Maybe it would keep her busy and quiet until she was tired enough to join her brother. I took her down there and we did a spider-check and turned on all the lights and I went back upstairs to work on laundry from the trip. 20 minutes later she still hadn't surfaced but the sound of her happy humming could be heard from the top of the stairs. I called down to her to ask what she is doing, and she told me she's cooking some yummy food in the toy kitchen. :) She walked to the bottom of the stairs to show me her plastic culinary creations and then dissappeared back around the corner. After a bit, I was in the living room at the computer and I heard her come up the stairs. She walked past me, telling me she's going to bed now, happily blew me a kiss and went to bed. If you know my daughter at all you know bedtime is almost always a big drama production so I sat there with a perplexed look on my face for a good while wondering who was this child and what did she do with my daughter! Lol!
5/14 Went for a drive as a family and at a stop sign on the edge of town, we were next to a home with a nice big peacock pecking around the front yard near the road. I told Chicklet to look out the window and see the big blue peacock! She looked out and I could tell the second her eyes found it because they bugged out in amazement and her mouth hung open! Lol! I really wish I'd had my camera to get a shot of her expression. :) The next morning, 5/15, Chicklet started out the morning by drawing pictures that she informed me were peacocks.
5/17 As I'm typing this up right now for tomorrow, I looked down at Buggie, who is laying on the floor at my feet in a pile of toys, slurping on his sippy cup. I smiled at him, he smiled back. I took some pictures. I told him "I love you!" and he replied, for the first time ever, "I yie you, Mama!" *melt*

The solution is... - Toddler Tales Tuesday
4/29/10
I was wearing a spaghetti strap tank top and shorts to wash up that morning because I knew I'd have kids bursting in on me every 3 seconds. I usually wear a long skirt or my long pajamas, so Chicklet (3 yrs, 6.5 mnths) is not used to seeing me scantily clad unless I just got out of the shower or something, but I hadn't had a shower in a couple days and needed to be CLEAN! :p
Chicklet asked me, "Do you need a shirt with sleeves?" This was a rhetorical question, her way of telling me to put some clothes on! ;) I told her I will get a shirt with sleeves soon but I have to wash my armpits right now. She looked at me sympathetically, nodded, and said conspiratorially, "Deodorant can help you."
Thanks, sweetie. :-/

Turtles & Tap Dancing - Toddler Tales Tuesday
At this very moment there is an upside down green rubbermaid-style box moving around my living room. The box is slowly sliding all over the place with all the grace of a drunken turtle. Inside the box is one very silly 20 month old boy whose 3 1/2 year old sister is very jealous that he is in the box and she has been instructed to let him be and not take said box away for her own use. Isn't it amazing how they can have so many toys, but the one they fight over is the box that the toys are supposed to go in?
Meanwhile in the land of Uterus, a very tiny girl is practicing her tap dancing routine. Either that or she's got the hiccups. ;)

Toddler Tales Tuesday - Catching Marshmallows
4/15 My poor Buggie (20 months) has a black eye. *sigh* Last night helpful big sissy took him his sippy cup- he was laying in the crib and she threw it over the edge. Onto his face. I've told her a trillion times to be careful not to drop the sippy on him. The ONE time I forgot to remind her to not drop it on him, she did. My poor boy! I heard the scream and went running in there and saw it literally turn black in seconds right before my eyes as I held and rocked him. Not cute, sweet, or funny. BUT, the next morning...
4/16 Chicklet (3 1/2 years) got a look at her brother's black eye and said, "Awww do ya have an ouch on your face Buggie?"
and he replied nonchalantly, "Yeh. It's a-kay." :)
4/19 Yesterday afternoon out of the blue Chicklet said to me, "That will be twenty-eight billion dollars! That's like... millions and millions of dollars!" I have NO IDEA what she was referring to but I almost fell over laughing.
4/20 This morning my little Chicklet helper helped me with dishes and laundry. ;) She did alot and did it with a smile! She put away the silverware, then she stacked the clean cups and handed them to me to put away, then she put the pot and pan lids in the drawer under the oven. Then she helped me load the dirties in, add soap, and turn it on. After washing the dirty dish germs off our hands we did laundry. I turned the washer on and then sorted while she put the ones I tossed to her in. I held her up to close the lid for me and then we got the clean stuff out of the dryer and carried it to the couch. We thought some hot chocolate was well deserved after 'all that hard work.' ;) She was drinking her hot chocolate when suddenly she gasped and I looked up, concerned maybe she had burned her tongue, but she informed me proudly that she had "caught" a marshmallow on the end of her straw... LOL!
Not too long ago, two cute little tots had somehow climbed into my desk chair behind me, crowding me off. I had about an inch of seat left before I wound up on the floor. Time for a new activity! So we opened the front door to watch the wind blow leftover last year's leaves off the budding trees. After a while the thunder and lightning began and the kids got such a huge kick out of it! Buggie was hanging onto the baby gate I put across the doorway (we don't have a screen door) jumping jumping jumping like he'd had too much sugar. Totally wound up on storm-induced adrenaline. Chicklet was begging me to make the lightning blink again over and over, and I over and over explained to her that God has the on/off switch for the lightning, not Mama! Lol! I don't think she got it, but she sure did enjoy the storm for the hour or so it was going strong. I couldn't believe they stood with me in the doorway watching for so long. They didn't even get scared when I left them for 2 minutes in the doorway while I ran after the neighbor's trash can which was trying to fly like a kite down the street. Chicklet was cheering me on and Bug was jumping up and down clapping as I chased the thing along in my pajamas, getting rained on. I'll bet that was a fun sight for the poor neighbors. I hadn't planned on going outside again that night but didn't think it would be very nice to just let the poor elderly neighbor's trash can escape. *shrug*

Realistic Art - Toddler Tales Tuesday
4/8 Trying to keep her quiet and occupied during Buggie's nap, I asked Chicklet (3 1/2 years) to draw a picture of the new baby sister or brother that is growing in Mommy's belly. She drew a little stick person and beside it she drew a circle with a tiny circle in the middle and squiggley lines all over it. It took me a minute to decypher the circle with squiggley lines until she told me that the circle was my belly and the stick person was the new baby. It was then that it dawned on me that the squigley lines looked an awful lot like stretch marks... Lol!

Ultrasound results are in!
Yesterday morning I had my ultrasound and I am pleased to announce that our newest addition looks to be a GIRL! :) Chicklet and Bug are so excited to be getting a new baby sister! Okay Bug really couldn't care less, but Chicklet was absolutely adamant that the baby NOT be a boy so I'm sure she's relieved that it's a girl ;)
A few months before I became pregnant I had a dream that I gave birth to another baby - a girl with a beautiful name. When I woke up I told my husband that we would have another baby and her name would be this name from the dream. He kind of scoffed at both the name (he wasn't fond of the name) and the idea that we would be having another child. Well when I became pregnant I reminded him of the dream. :) I think the name must have grown on him because he proudly announced it to his friends and family when he called them following the ultrasound to share the good news of the baby being a girl! Either that or he decided that when the wife has a dream that comes true, ya don't argue with the details. ;)
When I was 5 years old and my little sister was 2, my mom and dad told us that Mom was pregnant. They kept it a secret for a long time so Mom was pretty far along by this time. I immediately insisted the baby would be a boy. My parents tried to impress on me the importance of enjoying the blessing of a new baby no matter it's gender. I staunchly replied that God knew I already HAD a sister and needed a brother so I was SURE it was the missing brother. Lol! Well no matter what my parents said I was not to be swayed. And sure enough it was my longed for baby brother! I think I'd have been quite dissappointed if I hadn't gotten a brother.
Chicklet reminds me of myself so much sometimes. She is 3 1/2 years old now. When I first told her there was a baby growing in Mommy's tummy, she didn't care about the gender of it, just rejoiced in the wonder of it with me. She likes to help me rub my stretch mark oil on my belly- "to make it SOFT for the baby" she says! She kisses my belly and talks to the baby inside. Pretty soon she became aware that the baby would have to be a boy or a girl and became curious. I asked her which one SHE thought it was and she immediately declared the baby to be a girl. I didn't try too hard to dissuade her, remembering myself insisting even harder to my parents that my unborn brother was indeed a boy. Besides, I had reasons to think she was probably right. I was severely sick with Chicklet herself when pregnant, but not with Buggie. This time I have been severely sick again. I had mother's intuition telling me Chicklet was a girl before I knew she was, and telling me Buggie was a boy before the ultrasound proved he was, and this time around I felt I was carrying another girl, but I didn't want to get too set on that idea in case it was just wishful thinking from that dream I'd had before I got pregnant. Or perhaps I was fooling myself due to the similarity of this pregnancy to my first. But I still felt so strongly that it was a girl that I told people my hunch, and didn't try to convince Chicklet otherwise.
Every time the conversation of gender came up, Chicklet would declare louder and louder that the baby is a GIRL. At first calm and serene, if asked too many times in a row she would get downright frustrated that you weren't paying attention by the 3rd or 4th time she repeated that it's a GIRL baby. I began to wonder what we would do with Chicklet if the baby was not a girl! She would obviously be upset. Friday, I was telling Chicklet that "tomorrow we get to go see if the baby is a girl, or a boy!" She glared at me as I said the word boy and went, "Uh!"
I said, "If it's a girl her name will be ___ but what if it's a boy? What should we name him?"
Chicklet looked happy until I got to the word BOY and then looked terribly upset. Her reply was, "A boy?! A BOY?! Ma-mAAA!!! It's a baby GIRL!" She was very upset at the thought that it might be a boy.
We were thrilled to find out yesterday that the baby is indeed a girl! For Chicklet's sake of course, but especially because we love to know ahead of time and get very excited about getting to know our new blessing by name! :)

Cat Tag - Toddler Tales Tuesday
3/8 Buggie (19 months) and the cat are chasing each other around the house and Buggie is laughing hysterically. First he chases the cat, then turns around and runs from her while she lopes after him playfully. Meanwhile Chicklet (3 1/2 years) is using a washcloth swiped from the laundry basket as a blanket/hat/skirt/diaper/whatever for her dollies. It's such a joy to watch them play when they are well-rested. ;)

Bug said a new word today. He is in the stage where it seems he's saying a new word every day. He's even said his first sentence ("Whey is Dadday?") already. Couldn't have asked where Mommy was, no, he had to ask about Daddy! ;)
Today he got his fingers pinched in a toy cell phone and was crying. I offered a hug but he didn't want one. I offered a cookie and he grinned huge and bounced up and down and said, "Cooookie!!" ROFL! He's never said cookie before but it came out clear as a bell when he wanted one! Haha!

Charging for Junk Mail - Toddler Tales Tuesday
2/? (Sometime early February.) The kids and I were shopping with a friend in Carter's I put Chicklet's (3 yrs, 5 mnths) monkey backpack on her, Buggie (18 months) in the stroller, tied her monkey tail leash to the stroller and let her push him near me while I browsed. I hear a little voice on the other side of the rack asking for help and when I looked I saw only Chicklet, no Bug. I ran around the other side, thinking I heard Buggie's sweet giggle, and following the leash to it's end. He was on the other end of that leash... but seriously only a child of mine could loose an entire stroller with a baby in it in our tiny Carter's outlet! When I get to the end of the leash all I see is the handles of the stroller sticking out of the clothes on the rack!!! She pushed him in there and couldn't back him out. He thought it was HILARIOUS!! I was thinking it wasn't such a good idea after all to let the 3 year old drive the stroller. *sigh*
2/10 I was in the fridge pouring water and Bug tried to be helpful and close the door. On me. After he stops pushing on the fridge door with me in it trying to pour water without spilling, he peeks around with this offended look on his face like, "Would you get outta the way?!"
I happened to glance at Chicklet and she had her mouth hanging open and said to me sympathetically, "Awww Mama! Buggie SQUISHED you! Are you okay?"
2/21 Chicklet brought me some junk mail and said, "I get TWO DOLLARS for this!" I told her she might be overcharging a hair and offered her ONE dollar for it. She agreed. I gave her a dollar, she gave me the junk mail. Then she took the dollar to my husband and smiled at him sugary sweet and said, "Here Daddy! You can have this money!" :-| I think she was buttering him up because it was almost bedtime...

Toddler Tales Tuesday
I love my Buggie's laugh! He's got such a contagious giggle! I tickle him all the time to hear it!
1/11 During morning snacktime, Buggie was laying on the floor looking under the appliances and furniture trying to find anything gross he could get his hands on - to eat it. He had Goldfish on a plate but UFFO's (Unidentified Fossilized Food Objects hehe) were apparently more appetizing. And you know no matter how well you clean your floors, nobody is as good at finding something gross you missed as a baby!
Later that night, almost midnight to be more precise, I was up late as usual. I heard the bedroom door open and then a drunkenly staggering Chicklet groggily stumbles over to me, tells me, "I need a kiss!" Gets her kiss and a hug, and then staggers drunkenly back to bed, saying "Night night" over her shoulder. Mmmkaaaayyy...
1/14 Bug comes running up to me saying "Nanana! Nanana!" in a singsong voice. I gave him a banana, he replied, "Nankyou!"
Meanwhile Chicklet is dancing around me excitedly, accidentally steps backward onto my foot. I didn't even notice. She did though and said, "Oh Mommy I'm sorry!" and promptly kissed me before returning to dancing around. Just after that she began singing ♫ I love you Mommyyyyyy! I loooove yoooou Moooommy!♪ making the tune up as she went along. *melt*
1/27 We're watching the State of the Union... Chicklet was at first concerned over the fact that the TV was on and it wasn't Dora (we rarely let the kids watch TV and only prescreened DVDs when they do). After getting over the initial shock, she proceeded to stand very close to the tv, looking up at it with this baffled and offended look on her face. She listened to the speech for a while before suddenly turning around, throwing her arms up in the air, rolling her eyes in exaggerated anguish, and moaning; "Ohhh MAKE it STOOOP!" I tried not to giggle so as not to encourage her disrespect, as I was secretly thinking, 'I'll bet that's what ALOT of people are thinking as they watch this speech.' ;)

Toddler Tales Tuesday
12/1 My husband and I decided to go with a fake Christmas tree for a few years until the kids are older. He and I always wind up having the discussion where, we are making plans for our half a day's drive to spend Christmas with my parents, and he asks me why do we need a tree here if we're not even going to be here? Then I try again to find a way to explain to him the importance of having the tree even if we're not here to open gifts under it. (I.e. why it's important to have it even if we don't open gifts under it so that the kids get the symbolism of it and don't think that all it is is a gift-receptacle which, if we aren't opening gifts under it, then it has no purpose at all.) Then he brings us home a nice tree because he loves me and not because he really "gets" why it's important to me. Plus you know how fun it is to discover you've forgotten to water the tree and there are now about 50 trillion needles in your carpet which will clog your vacuum cleaner so instead you spend all day on hands and knees with a wisk broom and dustpan, picking them out of the carpet. Add to the fun two toddlers taste testing the needles faster than you can dispose of them... and well, it just seemed like a good idea to have a fake tree until the kids are old enough to care. So last night my dear husband bought us a fake tree. Doing so made him late getting home and kids were already in bed, so Chicklet (3 years 2.5 months old) didn't see the large box until this morning. She stood there staring at it. I said, "It's a big box, huh?" She replied, "BIG big box!" I asked her, "What do you suppose is in this big big box?" I did not expect her to remember Christmas trees from last year. She was only 2 after all. Then again, she had gotten extreemly excited about Christmas lights last year and has been pointing them out whenever we drive past a home that leaves their lights up all year so maybe. Chicklet examined the side of the box for a brief second, noted the picture of somebody's living room with a Christmas tree in the center, and replied, "It's a Christmas Tree!!!!!!!!!!!! Can I open it?" I told her that we would open it as a family when Daddy gets home. So all day since then she's been talking to herself saying things like, "Daddy coming home later. Daddy will open the big box. Daddy will be home soon. When Daddy is home we can open the Christmas tree..." I think she might be a bit excited, what do you think? ;)
12/2 Last night when my hubby got home and set up the Christmas tree Chicklet hovered around her Daddy like a fly on a ... you know. She was SUPER excited and had to be in the middle of the action. Then this morning when Bug (1 1/4 years old) woke up and I brought him out to the living room, his bottle literally fell out of his mouth in shock when he saw the tree. He stared at it, pointing and opening and closing his mouth, for a minute or two. Then he proceeded to ask, "Issit?" over and over for the next hour pointing to individual lights and twigs of the tree. I dutifully sat on the couch beside the tree with him in my lap for the whole hour replying appropriately, "That is a red light. That is a branch of the Christmas tree. That is still a branch of the Christmas tree. That is a green light. That is a blue light. That is yet another branch of the Christmas tree. That is a yellow light. Yes that is even yet another part of the Christmas tree..." I don't feel it was an hour wasted. :) It was a wonderful dreamy hour with one kid in my lap and one on the floor at my feet just enjoying the Christmas tree together. That right there makes it worth the price of buying a tree.

Toddler Tales Tuesday
Chicklet (3 years, 2.5 months old) caught me checking my virtual fishtank on facebook. She points to the fish and says, "Oh angelfish! It's a Mommy angelfish and a Daddy angelfish and a Buggie angelfish and a Chicklet angelfish!"
Chicklet brought me a box of paints off the kitchen island and says, handing them to me, "That will be one dollar!"
I fed Chicklet and Bug (1 1/4 years old) each a fried egg. Bug doesn't usually eat much so I gave Chicklet a second egg, but not Bug. Well Bug finished his egg and scooted closer to big sissy. Chicklet fed him a bite, then herself, them Bug, alternating back and forth, sharing until the egg was gone. I was so proud of her!
Before heading home from visiting the relatives for Thanksgiving, we were in hubby's parents' living room. My FIL gave the kids each a chocolate covered marshmallow santa. The santas weren't very big. Well then hubby's brother showed up with his daughter who is 5 months older than Chicklet. FIL gave her a chocolate covered marshmallow santa and Chicklet was giving him her best poor neglected granddaughter look. So he asked if he could give my kids another one so they wouldn't feel left out. I thought, well they're really small and the kids aren't here but 3 times a year so I said yes. Over the course of the next 10 minutes you could just see the kids turn into totally different kids. They went from being all shy and quietly playing on the floor to Bug with wide wild eyes and a goofy crooked grin squealing and stomping his feet, climbing the furniture and then flinging himself off it, and Chicklet also wide eyed and running circles, babbling on and on and crying at nothing. Yikes! What do they PUT in those marshmallow santas?!

Chicklet cut her own hair.
So Chicklet cut a chunk out of the top center of her hair. Thankfully it's a couple inches from her scalp and the weight of the longer hairs around it seems to hold it in place. Mostly. I don't know how she got ahold of the scissors but I went in the kids room to check on them when they were supposed to be napping and there was a long lock of beautiful Chicklet hair laying on the floor, and Bug was playing with scissors. He had them up the inside of his emptied DropIns bottle trying to snip the liner. After taking the scissors away from Bug and making sure he hadn't snipped off any fingers or other body parts, I pointed at the hair on the floor and gasped out, "Chicklet... hair?!" To which she responded sweetly, "I cut it Mama! ... Hey Mama, why are you sad?"

It's finally happened: Toddler Tales Tuesday
Wednesday September 30th it finally happened. What I've been waiting for. Bug (13.5 months old) started WALKING!!! He just stood up about 2 feet in front of me and wobbled two steps toward me before falling into my arms giggling. He was so proud of himself! Hooray for my sweet Buggie walking! I'm just so proud of my sweet boy! :) He's been practicing ever since.
